COMMUNITY RESEARCH

The organization operates within a community of people who are very vulnerable including high
evels of domestic violence, street children, abandoned families, gender based violence, sexual
assaults, high poverty rates, flood from river Nyamwamba and Nyamugasani, many health
issues, high levels of illiteracy, and all these have left the place to keep vulnerable. REAP FOR
THE POOR ASSOCIATION a community based non-profit organization is taking a lead in
engaging the community through different interventions like campaigns, sensitization and
research together with the community members and the local authority in Kasese district and
other neighboring districts, Uganda to address the many different challenges mentioned.
However, the organization will appreciate so much for any assistance from willing individuals,
organizations, partners, funders, donors and government entities to carryout research or engage
the community in any of the mentioned field.

EDUCATION SUPPORT

REAP FOR THE POOR ASSOCIATION looks at learning and skilling the community members
as a very vital role in transforming the mind-set of its citizens. Kasese is one of the area that is
affected by not going to school children due to some challenges namely low opinion on
education, domestic violence, (sand mining) from the river, lack of parental care, high poverty
level. The organization has come up with a strategy on how it can support the community in
education through sensitization, awarding the best performers, go back to school campaigns,
supporting school going children with some scholastic materials, even where need the
organization solicits financial support for the most vulnerable children to enable them study. The
organization has also set up groups in the community to easily discus community challenges
together with the local authority to embrace financial pools like group savings that later
guarantees some of the parents to support their children to access education.

HUMAN RIGHTS AND ADVOCACY

A human rights program is a framework or initiative focused on promoting, protecting, and
fulfilling human rights through activities like research, advocacy, education, and policy
development. These programs can operate at international, national, or local levels and are
crucial for achieving peace, justice, and sustainable development. They aim to empower
individuals, ensure legal and policy environments are fair, and address the root causes of human
rights violations. Due to the many challenges affecting the Kasese community the organization
has established a platform together with the local authority on how to address issues related to
human rights and advocacy for example issues of rampant gender based violence, street children
handling and providing other related human rights services like counselling. We advocate for
equal treatment in terms of socio-economic empowerment through public sensitization,
community dialogue and talk show over Fm radios.

TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION

A Community Technology and Innovation Program is a broad term for initiatives that use
technology to benefit a specific community, often by addressing local challenges through co-
design and collaboration. Examples include programs that provide access to technology and
training in rural or underserved areas, support youth-led startups solving community problems,
or facilitate the transfer of new technologies to the local market. These programs aim to foster
inclusive growth, empower local residents, and ensure that technological advancements lead to
tangible community benefits.
Key functions and goals

Bridging the digital divide: Extending technology access, internet services, and digital
skills training to rural and underserved populations, such as through Rural Community
Technology Access (RCTA) centers.

Fostering local solutions: Focusing on specific community challenges, like agriculture,
water sanitation, or waste recycling, and co-designing youth-led solutions.

Supporting entrepreneurship: Providing a support system for local startups, which may
include seed capital, business development services, market access, and access to a
makerspace.

Facilitating technology transfer: Helping to move appropriate technologies from
research and development to practical application and local adoption, often through
partnerships and agreements.

Promoting innovation ecosystems: Creating environments where innovation can thrive
through collaboration between academia, industry, and community members.

Ensuring equity and inclusion: Acknowledging that true community impact requires
inclusion and is not the same as gentrification, by meeting people where they are and
ensuring marginalized groups can participate.
